EUROPA: In The Shadow of the Reich is a feature documentary recounting the lives of three men who lived during Second World War. Arnost Lusting was a teenager when he was sent to the ghetto town of Theresinstadt and then to the death camp of Auschwitz; Siegfried Knappe was a German officer when war broke out and fought as a front line soldier on both the Western and Eastern fronts, and finally serving as the Operations Officer in the Battle of Berlin; Valentine Berezhkov was a Soviet Diplomat in Berlin and was the interpreter for Molotov in his meetings with Hitler and Ribbontrop, and later was the interpreter for Stalin in his meetings with the Allied Power.

Through archive film, reconstructions and rare unpublished photographs von Kalckreuth shows us a side of history that we rarely see in history book – the personal impact of history on people consumed by its unfolding.
